[Artist Statement] Tell us more about your photo by sharing a brief artist statement OR answering this prompt: "This is what being ______ means to me..." (Max. 100 words)

I wanted a self-portrait feeling handsome in my skin, hiding those parts of my body that feel alien to me and used light as a concealing tool. I like the paradox in that something that illuminates things can also be used to conceal them. Yet, in the hiding lies the revealing of an intimate truth.
I’ve called it Gender Translucent because I feel that gender is something I will never be able to outline or bring its infinite facets into focus. It’s a semi-transparent notion that also glows of its own vital light.

[Visual Description] Describe your photo so we can provide alt-text. Example: "Two women holding hands and smiling as they walk in a pride parade, surrounded by rainbow flags."

A person lies on their back on a bed, resting their head on a pale pillow with both arms bent and hands tucked behind their head. They are shirtless, wearing partially unbuttoned blue jeans. Soft daylight streams across their torso, creating a bright horizontal band of light over their chest. Their expression appears calm and contemplative, eyes open and gazing upward toward the camera.

[Agreement] In the event that you win the 2026 Curve Photo Contest, do you consent to having your photograph printed for the sole purpose of displaying at The Curve Foundation's one-day event at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (San Francisco, CA) during Lesbian Visibility Week? The Curve Foundation will cover printing costs, but will not cover costs for mailing the print after the event ends.
