[Artist Statement] Tell us more about your photo by sharing a brief artist statement OR answering this prompt: "This is what being ______ means to me..." (Max. 100 words)

The photo I’m submitting is of my moms slow dancing on their wedding day in 1994. They got married in Provincetown, MA surrounded by family, both chosen and not. Gay marriage was not legal anywhere in the U.S. until Massachusetts became the first state to pass marriage equality in 2004. 10 years after their wedding in Provincetown, my moms renewed their vows in our backyard — and this time I got to witness it. They taught me what love is supposed to look like. They celebrate 30 years of marriage this year.

I wasn’t alive when this photo was taken. The photographer is Sue Scampoli of Boston, MA.

[Visual Description] Describe your photo so we can provide alt-text. Example: "Two women holding hands and smiling as they walk in a pride parade, surrounded by rainbow flags."

Two women slow dance with each other captured on black and white film. Both women are wearing white dresses and have short hair.
