Janaya At Home

- The last year I lived in Brooklyn I photographed a lot of my Queer friends either in their homes or public spaces to create a document of our lives. I wanted the images of Janaya to feel intimate and personal, so we took them in her bedroom. I find that as Queer people, the significance of having a home and space to call our own often has a deep meaning, and what we do in and with this space can convey a lot about who we are. The double exposure was accidental, but It ended up being one of my favorite photos from the series because it fused Janaya with her work in a way that melds her image and the image she’s painting into one. The painting behind her is of our mutual friend Ajay, which added an extra layer of familiarity and connection between us and our lives in New York. See all items with this value
